Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Neoplasm  (BPDCN) is a rare cancer that`s a subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). BPDCN develops when an immature (blastic) immune cell called the plasmacytoid dendritic cell becomes malignant.

The malignant blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cells infiltrate bone marrow, central nervous system (CNS) as well as other tissues.  The illness usually presents as skin lesions but also can present with central nervous system dysfunction, enlarged liver and spleen, swollen lymph nodes and tissues influenced by the BPDCN infiltrate. Some patients demo is with bone marrow involvement with a drop in white and red blood cells, and platelet counts.
